This garden for a San Antonio couple combines practicality, beauty and fun.
The front walkway was designed in a wide format with very few seams, to allow for guests in wheelchairs to easily access the home. Two heavily blooming beds flank the pathway, welcoming all to this home and providing a showy seasonal display.
Under the Live Oak trees, the plantings are kept minimal and low. Shade loving native plants like Columbine, White Mist flower and Pigeonberry add to the park like atmosphere. Boulders were added to increase the sense of negative space and to highlight the oaks.
The backyard shade garden is a whole different story! My clients entertain often, and desired an intimate, yet low maintenance space to host. I was inspired by my clients Cajun heritage and love of New Orleans. Moody, deep burgundy tones, dwarf palmettos, ferns and evergreens will eventually envelope this space.
